Annie Jacobsen - Glass

Annie Jacobsen fell in love with glass while working on her BFA at Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, Virginia. She has been working in both the flame shop and the hot shop, as an artist, assistant, and an instructor ever since.

Her concentration in glass as a material lead her to the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia where she worked as a Studio Assistant at the Glass Studio. This opportunity allowed her to work with glass artists such as; CUD, the De La Torre Brothers, Robert Mickelsen, John Miller, Kim Harty, Robin and Julia Rogers, and Charlotte Potter. During the summer of 2012 she had a solo exhibition of her piece “Transparency” a 6-foot glass dress at the museum.

After graduating from VCU, Annie traveled and continued exploring crafts and material studies. She taught classes in both the flameshop and the hot shop at the North Carolina Glass Center, in Asheville, and later at Hot Taffy Glass in Rocky Mount, Virginia.

She officially relocated to Asheville to pursue her dreams after receiving a scholarship to Penland School of Crafts in 2018. She then went on to work as an artist at Lexington Glassworks, where she was full time employed for the last 3 years. She also continued to teach in both the flame shop and the hot shop at the North Carolina Glass Center in Asheville.

Annie is now happy to be working as a local independent artist under the name of “Her Glassworks” collaborating with other artists involved in crafts in WNC. She is proud to call Jackson County Green Energy Park her home studio. This studio in Dillsboro, NC is one of the only hot shops in the world that uses landfill methane gas as fuel. By burning this methane gas, they are able to improve the environment and local air quality!
